What does “HTML to design” mean?
It means taking a page that already exists as HTML — your product, a marketing site, a competitor’s flow — and turning it into a design you can iterate on. Instead of rebuilding the screen by hand in a design tool, you start from the finished page and work backwards into new versions of it.
How do I convert HTML into a design with Alloy?
Capture the page with the Alloy Chrome extension, or paste a public URL. Alloy opens the captured HTML as an editable design in your browser: the layout, styles, fonts, and images are all the originals, and you change them by selecting elements or describing edits in AI chat.
Can I import HTML into Figma instead?
Yes — Figma plugins can convert a web page into vector layers, and that works well when the goal is a static design file. The trade-off is that the result stops being a web page: interactions flatten, and any redesign has to be rebuilt in code later. Alloy keeps the design as HTML the whole way through, so it stays clickable and the code stays real.
Does the design keep my fonts, styles, and images?
Yes. Because the design is built from the captured page itself rather than a lookalike, the exact fonts, colors, spacing, and images carry over. Nothing is re-rendered or approximated.
Can I turn HTML from behind a login into a design?
Yes. The Chrome extension captures whatever your browser is showing, so signed-in dashboards, settings pages, and internal tools convert into editable designs exactly as you see them.
Do menus, modals, and dropdowns survive the conversion?
Yes. Interactive states are captured as part of the HTML rather than being flattened into a screenshot, so you can open a dropdown in the design and restyle it like anything else on the page.
Can I redesign without touching code?
Yes. Select any element and edit it directly, or tell the AI what you want — “make this hero darker, swap the illustration, tighten the spacing” — and the change is applied to the underlying HTML for you. Engineers can still open the code whenever they want.
What happens when the design is approved?
The design was HTML all along, so there is no handoff translation. Export the updated code to your project, or keep sharing the live prototype link while feedback rolls in.
Is this different from converting an image to HTML?
It's the same engine pointed the other way. Here you start from HTML and get a design to iterate on; the image to HTML converter starts from what you can see and hands back the markup.
